Cognitive Training to Combat Memory Loss
Memory loss is a common occurrence as we age. It becomes a problem, however, when it interferes with safely completing meaningful daily tasks. Many underlying conditions can cause memory loss and we must determine the cause for each individual. While 70% of people over 84 years of age have some form of dementia, it can be difficult to identify the early signs and symptoms of dementia and other cognitive conditions. When you lose your ability to think clearly, your quality of life suffers. That’s why it’s so important to catch early signs of cognitive loss and do everything possible to train our brain. Recognizing that you or your loved one may need a cognitive assessment is the first step in the right direction.
Here are some signs that you or a loved one may benefit from a cognitive assessment:
- Orientation and memory deficits
- Difficulty with problem-solving and sequencing and/or judgment
- Inability to identify and follow through with a task
- Cannot recall medicines or recent hospitalizations/doctor visits
Cognitive Assessments can:
- Provide a comprehensive evaluation of a patient’s cognitive ability
- Identify cognitive strengths and deficits
- Educate on strategies to compensate and improve functional independence
- Improve cognitive health
- Provide a comprehensive evaluation of a person’s cognitive ability (such as with the Botes Memory Method)
- Educate on strategies to compensate and improve functional independence
